Kitchen Extension Calculators

A full set of calculators for planning a UK kitchen extension: work out what it will cost, how long it will take, how much material you need, and whether your plans fall within permitted development. Every tool draws on the same UK cost and regulation data as the rest of the build guide.

Use them to sanity-check a builder's quote line by line, budget each stage before you commit, and catch the numbers that look too good to be true.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the extension calculators?

Treat them as ballparks for early planning, not fixed quotes. They use current UK cost and regulation data, so they are a good way to sanity-check a builder's quote and spot a number that looks too low to be true. Your real costs depend on your site, specification and location.

Do the calculators cover double-storey extensions?

Yes. The cost and timeline tools handle both single and double storey. A double storey applies a higher total rather than simply doubling the single-storey figure, because the foundations and roof are shared across two floors.

What information do I need to use them?

For most tools, just your extension's floor area plus a couple of details such as region and specification. The planning checkers ask about your property type and boundaries instead.

Are the calculators free?

The most-used tools, including the cost, timeline, foundation and professional fees calculators, are free to use. A few specialist trade and materials calculators are part of the Kitchen Extension Access Pass, which also unlocks the full step-by-step build guide.
